Here are some basic cake decorating tips to help you get started:

  1. Use a molded character cake pan (they have easy, comprehensive directions and make really cute birthday cakes).
  2. Use decorator icing or royal icing rather than buttercream for piping because it holds its shape nicely.
  3. Use pre-bought fondant or make your own easy marshmallow fondant.
  4. A fun cake topper can really make a birthday cake sparkle.
  5. Don't be afraid to try something new!
